Laura row rumbles on

The row over Laura White’s shock exit from The X Factor shows no signs of abating – questions have even been asked in Parliament. Taking a break from the neverending dullness of debating the global economic crisis and other such tosh, Culture Secretary Andy Burnham piped up in the Commons yesterday, branding as “harsh” the decision to axe Laura, one of his constituents.

But diminutive X Factor judge Louis Walsh insists he was right to give Laura the boot. “Laura was in the bottom two – her performance was bad and her styling was even worse,” whined the Irishman. “She didn’t get the public support and got three votes from the judges. No one in the bottom two ever wins The X Factor, that’s just a fact. Laura was never going to win.”

An angry mob of 10,000 Laura fans disagree. They’ve all furiously bashed their names onto an online petition demanding she gets a second chance, or a record deal at least. Even outspoken popstrel Lily Allen has joined the debate, writing on her blog: “Laura didn’t deserve to go. I think we were all shocked.”

There’s a tiny bit of good news, thought: Laura has vowed to pursue her music career regardless of last week’s setback. “The show has given me confidence,” gushed the tearful Bolton-born balladeer. “I’m proud of myself.”
